New Cellphone Law Coming to Colorado

Just a PSA for anyone here in Colorado or those planning on visiting, Colorado will become a “hands free” state beginning Jan 1, 2025. Don’t get caught holding your cell phone while sitting behind the wheel…

Be safe out there…

Georgia has been a “Hands Free” state for many years, maybe 10 or more :man_shrugging: It’s a good thing…

I thought all states had that.

Nope, not for folks with regular drivers licenses anyway. It became a federal regulation for commercial vehicles a few years ago though. That was why I invested in a blue tooth.

Until now, Colorado law was no texting while driving and youthful drivers under 18 were prohibited from all cell phone use while behind the wheel. Those two laws are still in effect.

If it is like my state, it won’t change a thing. Still see it all the time and we have been hands free for a few years.

Yeah, I would say you’re right Ryan. It never ceases to amaze me how many people will pick up their phone the second they stop at red lights or will text while driving. I see it all the time…

Ya’ll pissed that you have to get off the Freeway/Highway to call your Dealers now!!

As other’s have said, it’s been like that in NJ where I used to live since 2014.

All it does is give an excuse for a cop to pull you over.

I haven’t held a phone to my ear in a car in as long as I can remember. It’s all through the car or speaker now.

Been that way in Maryland for a few years. Still get people texting at red lights. I bought a Motorolla hands free device but stopped using it. Just don’t answer when I’m driving, It is the only solitude I get!

Ditto!
The “Hands Free” laws are intended to curtail “distracted driving”.
IMO… whether holding a device, or simply using a different device to be “hands free”… you are still “DISTRACTED”!!
I see Realtor types talking and what looks like shuffling through papers while driving, or talking and doing their make-up while driving!
Risky driving is worse when hands free!!

Most Realtors I contact are either in yoga attire or appear to have just come from a bar.

We’ve had a statewide law since 2014 and prior to that we had individual municipal bans for a few years. With new cars having Bluetooth connections to the phone there is really no reason to hold it in your hand.

Same reason as before - a car without Bluetooth!

How old is that car? Mine’s from 2015 ans it has Bluetooth!

So, your logic says that because you have an old car with bluetooth - all old cars have bluetooth! I bet not.

Many people have cars older than yours. What about them?

What about them? Go on amazon and buy a $10 headset.

And for the record my original post was about NEW cars.

New cars make up a whoping 6.1 percent of cars currently on the road. Still no excuse?

No excuse for what? Sounds like you dislike this law.
