One for the Wind Mit Gurus

If you are not doing Code how can you answer the question below:
And don’t say because they pulled a permit. The building code specifically states that an inspection by the city code official does not mean that the home was built to code.

 1. : Was the structure built in compliance with the Florida Building Code (FBC 2001 or later) OR for homes located in the HVHZ (Miami-Dade or Broward counties), South Florida Building Code (SFBC-94)? ****

You are exactly right in your statement John that “******If an engineer can prove that a fastening schedule is equal to or greater than the code it is likely that it will be approved by the plans examiner. “

****In fact here in the Panhandle I find stapled roof decking on new 2013 – 2014 construction for just that reason. I questioned the stapled decking when I initially found this type of application and was quickly put my my place by the county code inspectors. ****

****When all else fails move backwards. **

Then I will not tell you.

Staples(when installed correctly) have a great uplift resistance. It was the installation that gave them the bad rap.

The installers were not used to using any nail/staple guns. They turned the pressure up and shot them through and could not tell when they missed. This was one of the great reasons for damage during Andrew.

Perhaps you should read this report to understand what caused the greatest damage during hurricane Wilma.

Where did I write Wilma?

Studies are done almost every storm. This is one reason why we keep changing the form.

Dang now you even have you fingers in changing the OIR’s form.

You sure have some reach  Writing the course, changing the form, getting declarations etc…
I hope you are at least now an “approved” educator for the course you wrote  That sure was weird when you were not mentioned, for sure you should have been :frowning:

I am happy for ya.

I wish I had some influence :frowning: I would start looking out for homeowners.
Insurance companies seem to be writing the rules that are supposed to regulate them? Seems odd to me.

If I had your reach I would start trying to make things safer for those who perform the inspections and more profitable as well.

I guess it is all in who you agree with? Weather you get to make the rules or make them up? I guess some of us just have to deal with the hand the homeowners are dealt :frowning:

My mistake. I meant Andrew. But if you read the article you would know that

Those are common in beach area - Spiral shanked DRAVIT nail. they are shot in from a High pressure gun

We rank them as 8D and circle spiral

ADD a note to the picture - Shuts the underwriter up

Influence…, the only influence I have is from the fact that I do not call people or groups of people names and try to see all sides. You could actually have some better influence if you would stop putting your foot in your mouth.

The reality is you give me more credit than I deserve for anything. “We” changing the form refers to all that had input. Some people actually talk to me because I do not trash them. We are all in the insurance mess together.

If you understand that insurance agents, underwriters and companies in Florida are NOT getting rich, then you should direct your attention to the reinsurance markets.

But still, I am teaching another short updated wind mit class this weekend :stuck_out_tongue: .
