I think it’s more like perfect, perfect, hot and what the heck was I thinking moving to the DAMN DESERT!
Naaaa…unbearable?..I’m freezing when its below 90 degress, I have lived here 25 years.
It was so hot that I wouldn’t get in my pool during the day…of course I was working outside w/ the crews most days so I had enough of the heat by the time I got home…maybe if I had been an HI back then I would feel the same way
There is kind of a lot to unpack here. Welcome to being a home inspector, nothing really works like most jobs you are probably used to working. So you’re saying you want to parallel an inspector without having to pay the parallel fee, correct? Unless you know a home inspector personally or sometimes if you sign a one or two year contract agreeing to work for said inspector once you get licensed, I honestly don’t know anyone who didn’t pay to get their parallel inspections out of the way. It is just something you have to do. I paid a friend of a friend and he “hooked me up” by only charging me $50 dollars per inspection.
You aren’t going to like this part either. Once you actually get license you can’t just turn around and make that money back by allowing other’s to parallel you because you have to be licensed for a set number of years and completed a minimum number of inspections during that course of time before the state will allow others to parallel you.
Honeslty i think you have already done yourself a huge diservice by holding out for 4 months trying to get someone to let you do it free. I’m sure eventually someone will be cool and just allow you to do it cheap or maybe just take pity on you and do it for free, but you have already lost 4 months trying to make this happen. Add whatever time it takes you to get someone to let you do 30 of them free and what does that look like in terms of time lost you could have been licensed and working on building your business or going to work for someone? With as much experience as you have in the industry and making the transition I imagine you have people that you have lined up to give you inspections as soon as you are certified, right? Pay your dues like everyone else and get to work man. No one will tell you that it doesn’t suck to put out $50-$100 dollars 30 times as a part of getting licensed. It really does, especially when your trying to start a business and money is tight and you just want to start making some by getting out there. You’re almost there though man. Do the math though, i bet you will find if you lay it out on paper paying that $50-$100 30 times will cost you much less than continuing to wait until you can find someone to do it gratis. Again, I don’t know what you have lined up out of the gate as far as realtors or people willing to refer you, but if you were licensed 4 months ago how much money do you project you would have made in that 4 months?
I’m sure you have already thought of that, but in case you hadn’t I wanted to put it out there. I was really mad about it also until I thought about it and realized I was asking this guy to take away part of his annual revenue (part of some inspectors revenue every year is parallel inspections) to essentially help me get my license so I can turn around and be direct competition for him. When I thought about that I didn’t feel as bad about it. Plus, one day when you have been licensed long enough, and you get that set number of inspections you will be able to get that revenue back if you decide to do parallel inspections. Not to mention the part that these guys are liable for you while you are there and if you happen to do something that someone doesn’t like that could affect them negatively. Some inspectors won’t do parallels for that reason.
Good Luck, I hope you get it figured out sooner than later.
Just a guess if he hasn’t figured it out by now, he never will. Considering that the last response prior to yours was February of 2006.
I would agree, I put my two cents in not so much for him, but the other people doing the same thing and run into this thread when they do a search. Always can count on someone to say something about something though. Got to love the internet and forums. Thanks for being that guy Jeff.
Yeah, I hate it when that happens.
I can see where it’s got to be infuriating to resurrect an 18-year-old thread with expert advice only to have someone else say something.
