PDF programs

I made a big oooppps and it looks like I’ll pay for it. I had bought Adobe acrobat 6.0 Professional over a year ago and had a bug on my computer which prevented me from converting files to pdf. I took adobe off my computer and went to reinstall it. I lost the serial number to the disk and I found out that I never registered it. Now I’m stuck buying a new PDF converter. I found that I used Adobe acrobat to collect pages to one file and convert to PDF.

Does anyone know of any other PDF converter that cost a lot less?

I’ve been using a program called PDF995 for the last 2 years without a single problem at my end or the clients. If all you need to do is create a clean PDF file from any printable document and don’t care about all the extras then I highly recommend it.

http://www.pdf995.com/ Price...$9.95. For $19.95 you can get their entire suite which also has security, watermark, etc features.

So far I tried pdffactory and it works a lot better than Adobe acrobat. The files are half of what they use to be and most of what I’m converting is in place. Adobe acrobat 6.0 moved things around and on one page, didn’t include a part of the report. The part it didn’t include didn’t add up to much so it didn’t bother me too much. I’ll try some of the others. Thanks for the information.

I called up the company that makes the software I use and PDF995 is one of the programs they recommended.

Do you use the free version or one of the others?

I second Cutepdf ![icon_biggrin.gif](upload://iKNGSw3qcRIEmXySa8gItY6Gczg.gif) Works just like a printer, sends it to a dir of your choice and your name. I do Word docs with pics and they are great.

Kevin (?),

I paid for the license after trying it out. If I remember correctly, the license key removes a "buy it" reminder. I actually got all 3 programs, pdf995, pdfsignature, and pdfedit, but have never found a need for anything but pdf995.

Like cutepdf (and I suspect most others) it creates a "printer" you can select when you hit print. The program has never created anything but a perfect copy of my documents...nothing ever gets moved around.

Here’s a free one http://www.primopdf.com/

You can't combine separate documents into one, but it works well otherwise.

Not sure what you mean by that Chad. The "printing" or writing to a pdf file seems to be instantaneous once you select the pdf995 "printer" and click OK. You have to type in a file-name but nothing really "opens". Reading, of course, is still through Acrobat reader...which does take a while to load.

The “opening to read” is what I was talking about. When I click on a pdf I may as well go get coffee. I get really irritated when I’m surfing and I click on a pdf by mistake.

Chad, pdf995 installs itself as a printer. You actually print the document and it goes to a save as feature. When you open them, they open just a little bit (not much) quicker than opening it through Adobe Acrobat.

I just wanted to let you guys know that I went with Pdffactory. I have been using it for a couple of days and am vary pleased with it. It’s much faster than Adobe acrobat 6.0 professional. I would never go back to adobe acrobat 6.0 when I can get this for less than half of the price and converts twice as fast.

Thanks for the help from everyone.

You might also consider PDFCreator. Here’s a simple tutorial on how to install and use it:
