Strange.
My guess would be a homeowner installed filter/treater of some kind that was removed later?
That, or a rough-in for a planned device that isn’t there yet, who knows…
Probably removed, given the pair of couplings on the yoke end. If it’s PVC vs CPVC it shouldn’t be inside the structure.
Maybe an old water softener loop.
