Has anyone found any benefits to joining Real Estate Associations? There is usually one for every County as well as a state and national organization. It seems like it would be a great networking opportunity.

Hi Oscar,
I am a member of the local board, of which there are over
900 members.
I am also a member of the NH association of Realtors,
both memberships are affiliate memberships.
I highly recommend it! I also find it very enjoyable.

I receive a significant amount of business from attending the Realtor Association meetings. It was a slow start but after I had been attending for a few months I started getting good referrals.

It’s been good for me also, and I sit on the Education Committee for the association. Plus with an affiliate we can get an electronic keypad to get into homes and that’s a “must have” around here.

I belong to two of them and am going to join another very soon, I get a lot of business from them and I get the best responce by doing home inspection work shops showing realtors red flags that are found on an inspection. they are more receptive to looking at the pictures if its not ahouse that they were trying to sell, and are more open to under standing where we are coming from when inspecting a home.

Same here, Ted, although we did get Supras in Colorado.
I agree, participation in RE meetings can be productive & lucrative. One of the 3 in CO worked well, 1 was OK, another was really a waste. Like all organizations, they have their own personality.
Here in Coeur d'Alene, it has helped.

In most cases you must join the MLS, not just the local board as an affiliate to obtain a supra key. That normally jumps the cost up to $500 per year plus your local affilation membership of around $125. I’ve never opted to obtain a key, but I have been a affiliate of up to four local boards a one time. Remember when you become an affiliate, the board will ask you for contributions of money and time at their local events, over and above your annual membership dues. I’ve found that contacting individual real estate offices is a better use of my time. I’ve also found over the years that realtors are spending far less time at the office and or board of realtors. Technology has allowed agents to spend less time at meetings and more time selling real estate.

In the area where I’m located at, you have to join a realtor’s association to get a SUPRA key. I wish there was another way because I do not solicit business from realtors anymore.
