What is the proper repair for deteriorated exterior jacket on service wires? Before and after pictures. Is electrical tape suitable for the repair?
3M does make a type of tape that can be used for permanent repairs. Standard electrical tape should only be considered a temporary fix not a permanent solution.

Replacement would be my recommendation.
IMO, no it’s not.

Replacing it is the best way to repair it. Standard electrical tape such as 33+ or 88+ is not suitable. 2234 can be used, but I wouldn’t use it.
When the cable sheath is as deteriorated as in your photo, the insulation on the conductors may also be deteriorated. I have investigated several electrical fires caused by deteriorated service entrance cables.

I agree, once the outer jacket gets to that level of degradation it should be replaced because the conductor insulation is likely degraded as well.
