Hello, I was offered a job today for a solar site survey. Was wondering if anyone else has preformed this type of inspection and if this is within the scope of practice. They have the following requirements.
Picture of the MSP & ATS ( Main breaker, wide image of the MSP, picture of MSP by removing the cover and the MSP label picture) - Make sure you take a picture from far away to identify wall space
Utility meter picture close angle and wide angle.
Attic ( Rafter pictures, Rafter spacing and rafter size measurement)
Roof Tilt, Measurements and Pictures ( obstacles pictures over the roof. Roof pictures, tilt of the roof) including roof measurement and rough sketch of the roof.
Pictures of the property from all sides (Identify the side where Meter, MSP is located)
Shading on the roof
Property Sketch to identify where the Meter and MSP location is.
My first question/thought is just how much experence and knowledge do you have to conduct such an inspection?
If you have little to no experence and or knowledge then you need to tell the folks that and let them find a qualifed person/company to conduct this insepction.
Yes, Gerardo, I have done many of these. Pricing will likely vary based on location. I’ve successfully negotiated $275 prior to travel, though I believe they typically offer around $150. Keep in mind that they have a significant margin—you’re saving them money. If they could do it for less themselves, they would. In reality, it takes about an hour. Hope this helps.
