Is there anyway to get access without RE license?
I joined the local Realtor’s Association as an affiliate member. As such, I was able to get a Supra electronic key.
Cost of joining association as an affiliate member was ~$200.00/year and the Supra key cost ~$150.00/year.
Check with the C.A.R and they can guide you. Every state is different in their requirements. Georgia only allows appraisers to have access to a Supra Key besides RE agents, unless it has changed recently.
Same as Larry here. It’s a requirement to have access to Supra, (We now use SentriLock which IMO is much better than Supra), I also have access to ShowingTime through the local RE Board.
Required by whom?
By the local RE Board/Association. They control access, so if you’re not an affiliate member, you don’t get access to Supra, or ShowingTime, which is a great tool for scheduling inspections.
I joined two different RE associations in my area, SF Bay Area, and it did not allow me Supra access because I did not have a RE license. Not sure about LA…
So, what you are really saying is… it’s not required to have Supra, BUT, if you want Supra and/or ShowingTime access, you need to be an Associate Member of the RE Cult Club.
That is how it is everywhere that I am aware of… “Pay-to-Play”!
Yes, that’s what I meant. And I though by adding Larry’s statement to my post above it made that clear.
I consider having a tool to access a house and the ability to schedule online with ShowingTime valuable tools that help me do my job more efficiently.
And yes, it’s pay to play, and I even have to pay extra for SentriLock, but for me it’s well worth the cost. And as an added bonus, it’s tax deductible.
In my area, agents usually have the Supra Key and a manual code box for two reasons. 1) For out of area agents to have access if they’re not on the regional MLS system. 2) For Home Inspectors, contractors to have access so they don’t have to get off their lazy asses to have to let someone in.
The ones that get me are those that have both, but only put the code to the code box in the Supra box. Too cheap to buy two keys…
Why are people who don’t live in California replying to a California based question?
Every state and every board has their own rules. What works in Ohio or Florida or wherever has no bearing on a different state.
That’s why I addressed my first reply as being CA specific and stated what you did.
In general, most association in Southern California don’t let inspectors have Supra.
A few associations have a thing where you sign up, pay a monthly fee, and you can access a property if the listing agents grants access at a specific time. But it’s a pain the rear to coordinate, and I’ve never actually used it.
Because the question isn’t a “California” question, and we all know every state and RE board is different. The fact is it’s a basic Supra Key question and there’s nothing wrong with people from different areas or states sharing their experiences and how they obtained a Supra Key.
Since you live in the Los Angeles area, why don’t you be constructive and post what your knowledge and experience is with it.
CVAR does not allow it. I am going to try LAR soon, but I doubt that also.
Pretty easy for me to see it was posted in the CA HI section.

It’s posted in the California Forum, not the general forum.
The OP made it California-specific by posting it only the in section of the forum called Local Inspection Issues California Home Inspectors. to get answers relevant to the Ops location, not your location.
For an otherwise intelligent person, it shouldn’t be difficult to realize a topic in the Local Inspection Issues California Home Inspectors forum has no real relevance to Ohio.
And I did post my knowledge and experience with it.
Please read what is posted before saying I didn’t.
So basically you’re implying that everyone who posted in this thread, with the exception of the OP, is not intelligent, including yourself, because the OP serves Orange County, so if your going to get specific, you’re not in his service area. And as we all know, each RE Board has their on rules, and he may have crossover into LA, or San Bernadino, or San Diego Counties, So what!
Just because it’s posted in the “California” section of the board, doesn’t mean that others are not allowed to chime in to try and help a fellow InterNACHI member when they see fit to do so.
Inspectors have access to ShowingTime and Supra in MN, in case anyone was wondering.
