tablet pc?

I am also in the market for a laptop/tablet, but there are too many choices!!! I think I’ll have to go down to Best Buy and look at a few!

What about cost for these tablets, anyone have an idea? Between the pc and the software I may have to get a job.

I have a Gateway Tablet pc that is now working great. I had lots of problems with it straight from the factory! I love the computer but the problems I had initially make me very weary of Gateway products now. The tough book is a good computer just the memory and processors are still way behind technology.
Go with a tablet of some kind. Good luck!

So $2000 (tablet PC price) is the price for a pretty good laptop. $400 is the price for a good PDA.
$2000 appears to be the price for a good Tablet PC. Will it do the same things a laptop will and so the same things a good PDA will?

Problem with the PDA is the limited screen makes it more difficult to see choices and it’s hard to read in the sun. If you have a PDA, you’ve probably already got a laptop, so the Tablet PDA better do something pretty good to justify spending another $2000.

In what kind of situation does one buy a Tablet PC?

If anyone wants to buy one of these from me, then I can sell it for a pretty good price. It’s tight enough that I can’t really lower it alot, but it’s sure alot cheaper than buying a tablet, and the software alone is great!

What operating system is used?
Will or do they ship to Canada?
IF so, any idea of shipper and cost?

I have to look at it more but I don’t believe it has it’s own operating system. I think that you plug it into the laptop or desktop and then use the pen or mouse with it.

I think you would use the software on the actual computer, and then this to make the screen writeable.

I can also get a factory reconditioned Acer Tablet for $1400 all shipping included.

This tablet is the choice of field professionals around the world in various industries, including home/commercial real estate and real estate inspection, is light as a feather at 4.3 lbs, extremely compact and portable, tough as nails, and can be changed to/used as a laptop or fully functional tablet, and back, in a flash. And the battery really does last 5.25 hours, even longer, as I’ve used it on back-to-back 2 + hour home inspections, with no recharging between, and it still had well over an hours charge left !

Also included:

  • The eBook (Adobe PDF) version of Norm Beckers “The Complete Book of Home Inspection”, 3rd Edition ($ 20 originally)
  • The 512 MB DDR2-533 memory upgrade ($ 70 originally)
  • Microsoft Office XP Professional (includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Outlook, and FrontPage, installed on the tablet, but no CD media available) ($ 400 originally)
  • Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006 (with full install media) ($ 30 originally)

  • USB Bluetooth Module ($ 30 originally)
  • Form-fitting $ 100 Fujitsu field bump case for use as a laptop or tablet without removing from the case,
with hand straps, arm cross-straps in back, shoulder strap, and eyelets for attaching a harness
  • Powerline 100 Watt DC/AC power inverter (for use of the tablet in your vehicle) ($ 30 originally)

You could also buy yourself a Pharos or any other brand GPS receiver (USB, CompactFlash, SD, or Bluetooth) for between 50 and 100, and have GPS capabilities on the tablet (Streets & Trips will work by itself for passive mapping/directions/routing, or with any NMEA-compliant GPS receiver for live GPS routing)

The tablet alone originally sold for $ 1650 (on June 8, 2006, and is still selling for that price today), and the full package (including case, software, bluetooth module, etc.):

Cost me about 2470 originally, but I'm willing to sell it all for just 1550 (or best offer).

If you were to try to buy this today, as I have it configured, it would cost you $ 2470. But don’t take my word for that, follow the links on each item included below, to find out today’s price for the machine:

If you can get to my neck of the woods, I can also show you hands on how to take your original forms and documents, for whatever industry, in Word, Publisher, PDF, Scanned-in JPEG, or whatever other format, and easily transfer them to and organize them in OneNote, then fill them out/mark them up anywhere, print them out for handing out/filing/etc., and/or create electronic copies in Adobe PDF format and send them to your clients/associates by email, then archive the completed forms on CD (or flash card).

Why am I selling this ? I have yet another machine that I’ve settled on for my all-purpose computer, so I don’t need it at this point.

I use the Motion 1400 tablet. Getting ready to upgrade to a 1600LE when the bank account warrants it! These are a lot like the fujitsu tablets and on the high side of pricing but sooo much worth it. (Seach ebay for used models) If you like small, they also have a 800 series or something like that.

CL check out http://www.electrovaya.com/](http://www.electrovaya.com/) .
They are located in Ont.
They all use windows OS and tablet soft ware.
A Stylus or pen with plastic tip instead of a mouse but works the same as a mouse.
What I like is you put the keyboard; 5” high across the screen and you have three choices.
1 QWERTY keyboard window that you tap each letter with the stylus.
2 Keyboard window that is set up to print each letter
3 Keyboard window that you write on. It automatically adds the next line when you need it. Shows the typed word or letter underneath and the facility to do corrections via a drop down box. When al is as you like it insert into doc by tapping the insert command. It goes where the mouse was at when you started to write.
Works great most of the time. Have not figured out how to write an x or the word fix so that it recognizes it. Always comes back with fist, fish, fight but never fix. Also seems to correct spelling as you write.
Now is a good time to try out some demo tablets as they bring them in for the back to school sales.
I have a gateway and do not recommend it. No parts in Canada. It’s flaky and unstable. Sometimes the writing goes nuts and the scrawl is not anything like I wrote.
Even with these problems I have reduced my on site time about 25%.
When I was looking for a tablet Dell did not have one or I would have bought it. Have a Dell laptop for fours and the service is the best I have ever had from anybody.

I purchased one before Christmas. I liked part of the features but it falls short like most do in the battery department. There are only two ways to load software. Buy their External CD drive or Cut and paste all the individual files from the program to a shared file and then install it. I did a mock inspection and the battery went dead in 2 hours. You can buy a extended battery but it sticks out like a turd from the bottom. They suggested i buy a 2 slot charger and two extra batteries. I found the screen to be not much easier to Read than a PDA. Some best buy stores have these in stock and you can play with them. I sent mine back within the 14 day return policy with no questions asked. If you buy all the extras to make it work you will spend $1500.00 easy. Thanks, Ken

This is what you need…
