All,
I’m doing the ground work to get this business rolling. I have read lots of posts on specialized tools required to inspections. What I would like to see is a list of tools required in two or three catagories that detail out what tools you use for a basic inspection as well as any specialized tools.

I’m sure that I will forget a few but here goes:
Required
Extension Ladder (or little giant ladder depending on what type vehicle you have)
Step Ladder (6 ft)
Cordless Screwdriver
Electrical Circuit Tester with GFCI tester
Hand Screwdrivers
FlashlightS
Coveralls
Gloves
Masks
Inspection Mirror for heat exchanger
Canned Smoke for Smoke Detector Test
Should have
Water Pressure Gauge
Gas Leak Detector
Oven Thermometer
Nice to Have
Carbon Monoxide Detector
I'm trying to visualize my toolbox/plastic tote to see what I am missing, but let other people add to this because I know I am forgetting something.
Welcome to the Home Inspection Business and welcome to NACHI bulletin board.

That is a great list and one that I agree is at least a must. For the budget concerned individual when you are getting started, you can save yourself some money by:
Cordless Screwdriver: luxury item & optional (yes it saves time)
Canned Smoke: Luxury, you can always press the test button & for now you can just follow the standard of practice & you don't need smoke.
Gas leak detector: Luxury but smart. Soap & water solution works for 99.9% of the plumbers out there so you can save money there too.
I could buy thousands of dollars worth of tools & decrease my bottom line every day so stick with what you need in the beginning & you can get those other helpful toys when your business takes off. Good Luck.

Make a basic list of tools you need for now. Make a second list of the tools you would like to get in time. Make a note pad of all the tools you have and add when you buy, on your computer. Hope this helps you some.
