I was in Cabo San Lucas about a year ago and they still had Aunt Jemima on the bottles in Mexico.

I use either Master or Main Bedroom in my reports. If the house house two “masters” I describe the locations of 1, 2 etc. The others are referred to as spare, guest or other. My report sets locations for the bathrooms. Off/in Master/Main bedroom, hallway etc… I have never used or will use “Primary” in my reports.

If you research “History of Master Bedrooms”, the most common results are that the term “Master’s Bedroom” was first used in the mid 1920’s by none other than Sears Catalog in advertising higher end furniture for the bedrooms of the “Master/s” of the household. The ones that ran the household ie. husband, wife parents etc.

There has never been a proven link to prior use even going back to slavery from what I can tell, but of course, just the mention of “master”…

I hear they’re reversing that but the original will be replaced with Elizabeth Warren. The whole intent is to help reduce everyone’s cholesterol!

Ever since this whole “Primary” thing started, every black client I’ve inspected for used the term “Master” for the bedroom and bathroom. It’s just a bunch of nonsence.

Same here. Once upon a time it was common to hear that the home owner was the “King or Queen of their castle” or they were the “Master of their domain”.

To me the “primary bathroom” is the one that everyone might share or would be most used, especially of it is the only whole bath (full tub w/ shower, toilet, sink) in the house. I’m with you on this… Just sounds strange…

When I first heard the term “Primary Bedroom” I was perplexed. I think I even said “HUH???” aloud… I usually try to stay neutral on the matter for clients, and avoid either term when possible, but never had anyone even appear to take offense to the term “Master Bedroom” when I have said it aloud. Honestly I think the whole thing is silly, but whatever… :man_shrugging:

I saw a piece yesterday showing how cheap and abundant eggs are in Mexico (members here from Canada have reported similar observations). Seems their guberment(s) didn’t cull the flocks over the new plandemic (bird flu).

Does anyone else find it incredibly ironic that the same people who complain the word primary is woke, are the same people who adopted the word “woke” into their vernacular, a word that ten years ago they would have considered woke?

Beatrice de Jong, consumer trends expert.

Who cares what a “consumer trends expert” thinks? It’s very inventive but it doesn’t inspire any confidence in me that she has a clue. More DEI nonsense.

Primary Bedroom Bathroom. Not a big deal.

I have a very diverse clientele. The only people I have known to be offended by master bedroom are white people.

My stepdaughter’s grandfather is a Cherokee Indian. She wore a headdress to a festival only to have it snatched off by a white girl who was offended by cultural appropriation.

When the realtor association released the new requirement, I knew the idiots were now in charge.

You can also use your list of room names to help a client label their panel in a way that a future owner can also use it.

I see that often in newer builds. In my own house, the original owner who I bought the house from, did a detailed labeling using directionals. North, East, West and South on all walls, bedrooms and living areas. Took me a compass and a few tries, but figured it out.

She tracked down the white eyes and scalped her.

In the pantheon of “wokeness”, this one is minor. Whenever I am talking to a client, I never think to use the word “primary” and invariably say “master” when referring to the applicable bedroom or bath. Only one client politely but seriously, reminded me that it was “primary.” I just smiled.
On one hand, language changes. I am reading “On the Border with Crook” which was written in 1896. He makes many references and uses many terms and words very differently than today. Just about everyone today, would consider some objectionable or worse. It’s a great read if you’re interested in frontier life.
Since language is not static, if people are in the midst of embracing “primary bedroom” over “master bedroom”…it’s ok with me. Time will tell if it sticks.
On the other hand, I won’t be calling a mother, “an impregnated person” anytime soon, so clearly, I pick my stands.

It’s a none issue on my end. I will continue to use Master or Main. Unless the “woke” in the HI industry requires anything different…

I agree. Language changes and we change. I have resistance to the inanimate object offenses. Master cylinder, slave drive, blacklist, whitewash, master bedroom, etc.

This morning I drove by a huge billboard for a new subdivision that said “Paired Homes starting in the $400s”. It reminded me of a client I had last year. I inspected both units of what I called a duplex. One of the owners took offense and requested I changed the language in my report as the word duplex should have been Paired Home. Apparently there’s a difference. :man_shrugging: Just to be nice, I amended the report and all was good.

Funny how some folks take offense to the smallest things…

About the same as switching back and forth from daylight savings time changes the exact same 24 hours somehow!
