We're gonna need a lot more Florida members to start offering mold testing

The mold issues on all these homes and buildings when the storm is over, is going to be a problem for years to come.

We’ve had one-off storms like these for decades in Florida, mold isn’t as big an issue as you’d believe, once the dust settles and clean-up is underway.

Does Flordia require a license to test for mold?

(I see what you did there).

You’re likely going to reminded by the OP about the goofy “10 SQ FT” rule for a mold accessor.

@gromicko Nick, I’d like some guidance on the mold testing. I’m Licensed for Assessments and Home Inspections. I’m the only mold assessor in my company. To the best of my knowledge, my team of licensed inspectors can go into a home and test for mold at the home owners request, as long as it’s less than 10 sq ft of visible mold, correct? I’m trying to find language to back this up.

Most sampling is for AIR QUALITY.
Unless you are already there performing a home inspection, a license is required if someone calls you for sampling on a separate service call.
Surface swab is mostly BS. Who cares if the visible mold is green, purple, white?
It’s mold. I’ve seen inspectors swab shower tiles where the mold was on the grout. It doesn’t grow on tiles. It’s on like soap scum, dead skin cells. Clean up!
But buyers are not informed & some wil take advantage to make swab money.

A Florida home inspector license will allow you to do air samples as long as it is part of a home inspection and not a stand alone service. You will need an mold assessors license if you want to offer it as a stand alone service.
