No problem and I would never clock a gas meter for a home inspection.
That’s why I asked for opinions. I got this idea from a realtor friend. Now I’m getting encouragement from you nice group of fellas.
Alright, advice taken. Thank you
To the defense - I advertise starting costs of $250 for clickbait. I do perform pre-drywall inspections for $250 but obviously charge more for base price home inspections. I think advertising your lowest service cost will gain views and calls.
I like the $1 increase pricing. Good idea! Do you find that it is difficult to give a quote on the spot?
No, I don’t. I will charge additional for add on services such as termite or well & septic as well as for travel and commercial. but unless the property is 7000sqft or greater I will keep my price the same.
Well I found one of the H.I., that comes up for my neighborhood, isn’t from my neighborhood, and is an hour away, only charges $250cdn +13% tax for up to 1500 sq ft. So with that kind of money, he would have to sell some of the other services on almost every inspection.
Like it or not I will need to compete. It seems the more I search, the lower my competition’s prices are. With my luck, if I keep looking, I am going to find H.I. offering to do inspections for free with a $50 rebate
I understand Robert. It’s a tough call between asking for a fair inspection fee and getting it vs sitting home after getting undercut by an inspector who is willing to give his service for basically nothing. In my area we inspectors are friends for the most part and don’t undercut each other (intentionally).
Bottom line is the profit amount needed to make a living. Like an old contractor once said after getting beat on a bid “You will never lose money on a job you don’t get”
Good luck!
Randy,
Yes, the pricing formula is programmed into my online instant quote tool on my web page. But When I give a quick quote on the phone (often while driving or at an inspection) I do have to quickly make up a price estimate based on my formula so I won’t be exact. The advantage to quoting on the phone is that I can talk to the buyer about the house and what their concerns are and give them the assurance that my inspection will be thorough and at a higher level than other inspectors in the area and generally convince them that they want to schedule with me. I have a tendency to slightly underestimate pricing on the phone so I’m working on that skill.
Great response and awesome sales pitch advice too. Thanks brother!
