This sub is from yesterday’s inspection. What would you all report here?

The house was built in 1977. This used to be the main panel and was converted to a sub at some point when the service was upgraded.

Besides the non-existant floating neutral, I don’t see much that is wrong. The white wires attached to the breakers are not marked (kinda obvious on this end!). Grounding wires and neutrals are attached to the same buss bar (kinda goes with the floating neutral).

What are you seeing?

Todd, that’s where the main used to be.

If you look closely and the 30A braakers at the top right, both are double tapped. This is the water heater circuit. The bigger problem is that the double taps are #14 wire.

The set screws in the lugs are facing to the side. I have never seen one like that, so something must be wrong. icon_wink.gif

Or, I am not seeing it right.

Good eyes, Todd. I didn’t catch that. I would think that would make it hard to get them good and tight.

In addition to the above…

Don't forget the RED conductor on the neutral bar. Besides not being properly identified, it would probably indicate some very "inventive" wiring.

May be the biggest “red” flag in the panel.
