Wiring (Manufacturer) Defect?

These 2 cables are the 100 amp cable runs between the exterior meter and basement mounted panels.
The pictures are of the run thru the crawl space…

  • dirt floor
  • no heat present
  • no sunlight present…
Insulation has fallen off all of the wiring run with the exception of where they are cable tied together…
    Any thoughts?
    Material Defect?.

Almost looks like it’s been chewed off.

I agree. the romex in pic 3 has rough edges on insulation too, whats left

I have to agree.

Damn rodents!

CMI?

I had thought that as well.
I had an electrician there for the inspection and he disagreed
He felt a mouse , rat, squirrel … also would have chewed the fiber wrap…
The fiber wrap was undisturbed…

This was also the least of the home’s problems…

They probably didn’t like the taste of the fiber wrap?

I disagree with his disagreement. It is common for mice to chew one material and leave the next totally undisturbed.

Any other signs of vermin activity?

Insulation has fallen off all of the wiring run with the exception of where they are cable tied together…
Any thoughts?
Material Defect?.

Is there any on the ground or floor?

I understand at one time some cable was manufactured with a covering that was corn starch based and rodents loved it!

Looks like rodents and possibly some damage from pulling wire through roughly drilled holes

Soy as well.

This was a circa 1850 build Home blocks from West Chester State University…
maybe educated mice with a palate for exceptional materials…

Buyer has passed on the sale…

Ever get fiber glass in your throat?

Why is this labeled in the title as a Manufacturer Defect? How is this a manufacturers defect.

Refer to picture 3 of the initial post…
3 cable pulls at time of original installation…
2 completely missing insulation and 1 completely intact…
Wire covering was present on the dirt crawl floor…

As I originally posted…
I discovered it…
I thought rodent…
Electrician called it a defect…
I was posting / asking if anyone ever encountered this…

That’s not a manufacturer defect. Something or someone has ripped off the sheathing. This would not happen or be sold to customers from a supply house or big box store.

I would point the finger at rodents or the original installer…the manufacturer plays no role in these images. Tell your electrician that he/she is incorrect.
