Build A House (am) (an)

Hey Marcel, As far as the corner board goes my guys will trim it back, this drives me crazy, I hate it when they do this.

The reason is they can put a corner on quick and start siding so when I show up it looks like they have allot done and I always say, why didn’t cut the corner before you put it on? their responce is, ah we’ll trim it back later.

Pisses me off, one more item on the punch list!!!

That said, I do have to admit that I have a great crew and they do a nice job. We are about 4 weeks into this project and the sheetrock is hung ready for mud. So some things I have to bite my tougne and walk away.

Larry, thanks for the link, I like that, nice product.

We always cut our j channel so it comes back out of the siding and the water drains down the front of the siding and not behind.

We also use ice and water shield in these areas with the building paper.
I wish now I had taken close up pictures of how I protect these areas because I have my guys trained to use whats already on the site to prevent water penetration.

Peter, I have a crew of my own, and know exactly what you are saying.

I have well over thirty men right now and you have to think for about half of them and keep up with the screw ups that the half do.

I swear to God when you think you have resolved the idiot proof factor and think you have it resolve, another idiot is born. ha. ha.

I have a forklift driver that I will can shortly that comes in the morning at 6:30 with sunglasses on, go figure. He is brain dead.
Your lucky to bite your words if they are producing. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Marcel, I know exactly what you go through.

How many guys do you think will be out on Tuesday because their car broke down!!! and they couldn’t call you because their cell phone died or they forgot it at home and where stranded on the side of the road. HA HA HA

Peter, I am just glad I am not a Lone Ranger with these problems.

I am willing to shed off any of these problems to whomever would want them.
Home Inspections with only me is starting to look better all the time if you know what I mean. ha. ha.

Take care and keep busy and out of trouble.

Marcel

I know exactly what you mean!!!

I love doing inspections, much more than building.

Hi Pete…Been busy focusing on my other love.(ART)
I have a final walk through in about 8 hours and promise to catch up on posting the construction pics and go through yours.
I have many pics to share and would like to add more of an educational to the story line but will start posting sooner.
I have been experimenting with developing tiles and art with crushed glass.
Did not think anybody would notice I was gone.

Always nice to see you back Bob.

Marcel:)

Thanks Marcel,I promise to work on this thread later today.
I spent some time going through the place accross the street with a guided tour 2 days ago but have continued taking photos through every step.
Right now things are at a stand still due to a workmanship issue.

Bob - welcome back. We’re all curious as to how yor’re progressing. would like to see some pics when you have a chance.
Pete - nice job. Customers much be getting excited about the progress after all the delays with the weather!
Larry - thanks for the link on the DryFlekt. I checked it out, looks like a good product, have you tried it or know anyone who has? Just like to know the pros and cons.

Hi …I came back and began posting last night then came back to post some more but did not see one comment after 24 hours so I may just keep posting them on my blog and Active Rain due to lack of interest on the NACHI forum.
Perhaps there is not much interest in the community in seeing a house built from the ground up as a photo tour.
I know it is a good idea but perhaps not at this site.

Bob, I think it would have been interesting but you didn’t keep up with it.

What are you doing on Active rain/

Hi Pete…It is a forum for all people involved in Real Estate.
I have a group over there where inspectors from all assoc; are welcome to post.Surprisingly I get better response on build a house over there with 1,500 views in 12 hours on one build a house blog.
Any way I may try to post a few more but am suprised by little response.
You may be right about the timing.http://activerain.com/groups/homeinspectionreport

Hey Bob
Ya know we’re like little kids…very short attention spans.
Post some more pics, love to see how it’s progressing

Unfortunatly there are too many " certified" inspectors that think their instant certificiation does not require involving themselves with the valuable/additional information you can provide with the new home building process.

Suggestion: Get nick to give FREE ce credits to nachi members and I’m sure you will get plenty of interest and replys.

Thanks for the tips.
1]It is memorial Day weekend and traffic is slow
2]I could make it more entertaining
3]The megabyte limitation hurts photo presentations
4]people to have short attention spans in todays society
5]The subject may seem mundane to a percentage of inspectors.that prefer soap opera personality conflicts to education.
As proof see Rosie O’donnell all over what is supposed to be political NEWS stations.

Bob, I think your idea is good but, A better format would help such as posting a statement for each picture, IE Day three of construction the concrete forms are stripped, that in it’s self will spark interest and get people asking questions and posting comments. More important though, you need to post more often, minimun every two days.

True

Robert, where are you?

We all await your educational Posts.
