In 28 years today’s deck inspection was as close to falling down as any I have inspected. Rotated out at both ends.
That’s awesome. The ledger won’t fail. . . just everything that’s supposed to be attached to it. Did you have you’re yellow / red “condemned” tape to wrap around it?
don’t jump on that…
Robert, I carry that tape in my truck and put it on the back door ASAP. The deck is only accessible from the living room.
This is why it’s always best to inspect decks from the underside first, as opposed to doing the “jump test” first.
Do you have a wider shot from the backyard for us?
I had one similar to that 4 or 5 years ago. Not bolted to the home, posts not secured to the ground and frame falling off the notched post. No jump test for me, either!
Famous LAST words, “It ain’t going nowhere!”
Home Depot, 3" x 1000 feet. You don’t think you’ll ever need it, 'till you need it.
Hopefully they don’t have a party lined up in the near future.
Appears wind-lift and poor building practices at work.
Someone’s going to get injured from a fall or falling debris.
Way to “look before you leap”, Randy!
Talk about dangerous…wow!
Thanks for sharing. This is why it is so important to look at the deck. This is a death trap
Amazing…ly bad! I’ve seen some bad ones that are a foot or two off the ground, but ten feet high…sheesh.
Can you tell us more about this “wind-lift” damage you see on this deck?
Randy, your deck appears to have been overloaded at some point. Other concerns, one center post bowed. No lateral bracing.
Did you report that as a Deck in need of Replacement…Or recommend that the Firewood stacked too close the home should be moved back to prevent infestation of WDO including Termites?
