I'm typing this from the Ft. Lauderdale, FL home inspector/mold licensing meeting.

Non-member complaining that there are now 3 additional fees we’ll all have to pay.

Duh.

Department explaining that yes “there are costs to being in business.”

Funny.

Another speaker wants department to put up application now and that application should require applicant to prove how much education he/she has.

Department explaining that forms for every license are available online, but not for home inspections yet.

No. Hooper stayed away from construction inspections (his position is that we are unqualified to do them and that we should be prohibited from doing construction inspections).

The problem with that position is that code officials are prohibited by statute from doing anything much more than determining if something was built to the bare minimum code.

Most people buying a new home want more than a “yes it’s up to code or no it’s not up to code” report.

Speaker suggesting that inspectors be required to put their license number on their trucks. Probably a good idea.

Department explaining that they don’t make a profit, that they reduced real estate agent fees to $5/year after the program got funded.

Department explaining that they are unable to predict how many home inspection licenses will be issued.

Hooper back up at the podium.

Explaining that FABI lost members this past year, but that most of the old-time members are still doing OK.

The hand-raising count of InterNACHI members was amazing. Almost everyone is an InterNACHI member. Great turn out guys.

Home inspection portion of the meeting over.

Lunch now.

I’ll be back on this thread for the mold portion.

Nick and Greg, See you back for Mold licensing meeting

Do Doctors, lawyers, real estate agents, have their license numbers on their vehicles?

I think it should be just on a Card from the state or on business cards.

Jay pounded the mini-Minneapolis association all day.

Claude McGavic of the mini-Minneapolis association that wants to permit contractors to offer free home inspections as loss-lead generators for repair work finally cracked and got up in Jay’s face during lunch. Jay told him, “Hey, everything I said about you is true.”

Claude would not defend his mini-Minneapolis association publicly during the meeting because he knows the charges are all true.

I think Claude McGavic might be the only member of the mini-Minneapolis association left in Florida… and like termites… that is one too many of them IMHO.

Mold portion of the meeting about to begin.

Like the other 3 Florida meetings, there are far fewer attendees in the mold portion.

Mold meeting has begun.

76 attendees.

Department’s Bruce Grant: “We expect the mold law to be modified.”
