Department’s Bruce Grant: “We do not envision any prosecution on July 1, 2010 because we have to do some modifications.”
Bruce Grant: “There will be 14 hours/year of CE required.” “Businesses and individuals will each need to get a license.”
Bruce Grant: “Language in the law needs to be amended because it doesn’t cover grandfathering in the sense of the word that we all understand as grandfathering.”
Bruce Grant: “Grandfathering traditionally means that anyone in the business gets a license without doing what is required of a new licensee after grandfathering.”
IAQA rep speaking. Saying that anyone who is a member of an indoor air association should get grandfathered.
Also, explaining that his members are upset with the insurance requirement. Recommending that the department should drop the insurance requirement.
He got a big applause with his recommendation that the insurance requirement be dropped.
Bruce Grant: “Thank you but we want to stick to grandfathering.”
A member of the audience asks “Should online courses be accepted?”
IAQA rep said yes.
Another guy from audience said IAQA already launched online certification and that you can do everything online already.
Jay Schwarts up.
Saying that a contractor in FL only needs a $300,000 insurance policy to build a skyscraper.
Jay Schwarts “There was never a sunshine study done for mold so the mold law should be thrown out.”
Miami Dade instructor explaining that Miami Dade can provide courses.
Speaker holding up a certificate and a roll of toilet paper. He says he got the 3 hour certificate “Mold Technician Certificate of Completion” back in 2002.
This sounds like a lab training cert IMHO.
Only about 16 mold remediators in the room. They just did a hand count. So most attendees are here for the assessor’s license.
Speaker complaining that labs that offer courses are in a conflict of interest.
Department: “Although the speakers are talking about what each of their indoor air associations require, we need to remember that for grandfathering, the law requires that you have a high school diploma and 4 years experience.”
Department: “If you are in business right now, what should be the requirements to get a license? Should it be what is spelled out in the law? Should the law be applied to those already in business?”
Another “I have all kinds of experience” speaker. I’ll spare you.
Nick: Those in business shall stay in business period! Come July 1, 2010 we should be able to continue the services to the public. Go for it! Follow Jay’s point. No SUNSHINE study done!
Remeditators are taking over the meeting. Stop the nonsense.
