When I asked Bill if one would have to join CAHPI to be certified he said no and was backed up by a letter from CMHC that I recieved. But now it looks as if in order to maintain certification we will have to become members of CAHPI. Again the bull **** starts. It is time for a united fight to get CAHPI off the map and bring forward NACHI. A serious mailing campaigne from all NACHI members to our prospective MP’s will go a long way toward this and with a changing of the guard in Ottawa, or so I hope, we may be able to turn the tide.
This is planet Nachi resistance is futile. To quote Nick.
Larry the best way is for members to get off their asses on this board and start speaking up. So far it has been a piece meal effort. You can’t get a letter writing campaign off the ground without getting people to discuss it here first in my opinion.
You, I and others have letters confirming Certification is voluntary and membership in OAHI and CAHPI is irrelevant. NACHI should be able to be a signatory to the Certification. It is a seperate identity and the mechanisms in place to deal with complaints that may come in via certification status. CAHPI has no authority whatsoever to discipline CAHPI members the complaints go back to the Provincial Chapters. In my case that would be OAHI.
Question :
The Board of Directors of OAHI propose establishing an additional corporation to be known as CAHPI-Ontario. Our current association, OAHI, will remain, and the purpose of CAHPI-Ontario would be the advocacy and promotion of the home inspection profession in Ontario.
This allows OAHI to retain the goodwill built with government and other professional agencies while allowing the membership to join and benefit from opportunities presented by CAHPI National.
The OAHI will maintain its accreditation functions and continue to be responsible for granting RHI’s. This model is similar to other professions such as engineers or realtors. This solves the dilemma on how to regulate members while at the same time promote it members.
There would be little added cost for the administration of this model. Budgeted monies currently for the roles of Public Relations and Member services would be moved under this umbrella.
There is no requirement for a change in bylaws at this point in time. A healthy discussion has progressed on the Knowledge Café since October. It is time to act, the board is requesting the entire membership to voice their opinion.
A vote of Aye indicates support of this action and setting up CAHPI-Ontario. A Vote of Nay is indicates not in support of the action of setting up CAHPI-Ontario.
No need to change the by-law at this time? What? You can’t enact anything based on a straw poll vote. It is not valid and runs contrary to the intent of the by-law which establishes how things are to be voted on. Of course on the other hand OAHI hasn’t entirely followed the by-laws so why start now?
What benefits/opportunites presented by CAHPI?
A healthy discussion has progressed on the Knowledge Café since October. NO IT HAS NOT! There has been very very little discussed or answered!
Ray raises a lot of great questions .
Keep them comming Raymond and any others that wonder please add your thoughts and ideas.
I am sure more will keeep comming up .
I wonder by what authority does CAHPI operate .
Will the members eventually have a say.
Are they a not for profit Business following government guidlines
IT-496R Non-Profit Organizations http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/tp/it496r/it496r-e.html#P95_16394

Has CAHPI had a government given to be a company or could we be in the line of sight in a liability case.
I wonder what the future holds on Liability to CAHPI with us taking their test and then using this in our advertisments.
Just a couple more thoughts .

GLad to be a NACHI Member. TRY NACHI it is great
Ray I left OAHI Because I could not get a straight answer where the monies went .
They have about 300 + inspectors and 400 ± students paying dues and they just raised them again this year. There was never a proper audit when I was there .
Their advertising is almost non existant and they do little for the members.
They charge huge amounts for their courses
(you are expected to take them)
The last few years there has not been an increase in the RHIs ~200+
( can you say closed door association)?
There is now way that I feel they have the ability to be in charge in Ontario.
Roy sr.
Why should we try and re invent the wheel .
There is a very sucessful association in Canada that is for small business .
They are very strong and do look after their members.
I have heard nothing but good things about them and the Government does listen to them big time . http://www.cfib.ca/images/cfib_logo.gif
: http://www.cfib.ca/info/default_e.asp
Join with over 105,000 other independent business members of CFIB in its mandate to promote and protect Canada’s free enterprise system.
They have a trial membership good for three months cost $75;00 .
This gives every thing that the rest of the members get and we can see if it looks like the right thing for us .

Strange I do not see anything in the by-laws that empowered CAHPI to take non members. If you are a non member of CAHPI, OAHI, NACHI you apparently do not come under their auspicies. If you are a member of NACHI the responsibility for handling complaints that may result as a Certified Inspector would fall on NACHI? Is NACHI going to accept that role as well, in addition to their internal discipline via SOP/Ethics?
The by-laws seem very vague in many areas in my opinion.
Sure sounds like you must be a member of CAHPI.
I’m confused. And no I am not trying to be smart. I just think everything should be crystal clear.
Should NACHI change its name in Canada to CAHPI-NACHI, and should CAHPI change its by-laws to include revisions as to who is a member and who is recognized from other associations? I mean if some are going to be certified whose designation is paramount? Or does it matter?
The way it looks like to me is NACHI is doing well for its members.
I see no advantage .
In my area we have a member from another organasation who charges $175:00.
I guess he knows what he is worth .
We have a member from another diferent association who gives free WETT inspections with his Home inspection.
I charge a lot more and am satisfied with my many referrals.
Looks like the NACHI Conference is going to be bigger than any one could have hoped for so far 92 exhibitors 5 days of education .http://www.nachi.org/convention2006.htm
Spouses get a VIP pass and can get everthing the rest get Cost $50:00
We will be there hope you are too.
Roy Cooke sr. NACHI is the GREATEST
Has anyone had a reply to their application to take the National Certification test.
Did they get many applications? Has there been a date set for the test?
