After you brought that post up two weeks ago, I have been looking and looking on all 4 point inspections I have completed. After seeing the third one this week I have to say something needs to be done, Lol just starting another topic for discussion:mrgreen:
This was a fun 4 point inspection. From issues with the roof to the electric. After delivering all the bad news, the client actually thanked me for being honest and upfront with him.
We are out here to do a job. Even though we have to deliver bad news to the client. I rather piss the client off right then and there, then be called out later when its claim time.
In the last few weeks have heard homeowners say in regards to potential issues like wind rated garage doors , FPE panels , and other issues that County inspectors give it the ok along with HVAC contractors , electricians etc. It gets really difficult to explain to some people that while some things may meet code at the time of installation or even the ambiguous “Hurricane Rated” term Insurance rules the world so what they said is null and void. Just today a client said but the county inspector said my garage door is hurricane rated. Sure it’s rated but for only wind and the sticker even says so. It’s always a battle of wits with somebody.
I personally know of one case where an inspection company replaced a roof - they gave a painted shingle roof 10 years and leaked one month after the client moved in and another where they said the roof was not leaking on a roof certification when my report said it was. They had to repair that roof. Neither went as far as to have an insurance claim
You do but it sucks in my personal opinion. I think people should be able to do what theey want to their own property. I also thinks if it kills them, someone else or damages their property that is their problem as well. How many homeowners. even more so how many know it all inspectors do you think pull permits when they do stuff in their own house. The hassel alone make it a no go for the gov.
I would like to block in my window NOT expand the currently open hole and as a g.c. and home owner I still have to have a f-ing architect or engineer sign off on what I want to do, because it is an exterior wall. Nothing I could do to fill it would make it less strong than it is with it’ 1960 crank windows.
OK now start telling me how THE PEOPLE need to be PROTECTED from themselves. wa wa wa…
I personally would be happy if the gov got out of damn near all our personal biz and stopped sending billions of dollars to other Countries. Then maybe folks her could benefit from our gov spending on things we need like Infrastructure, Police, fire, paramedics etc…F the whole rest of the world as far as I am concerned until we become a Super Power and the most successful Country in the world. But hey that just me I am sure you Socialists and Commies around here will never allow that to happen
