Who has an iPhone ?

We are doing some market research on how many home inspectors are out there currently using iPhones or are planning on getting one this year when the new 3.0 devices come out next month. Just like the Newtons were 10 years ago we want to make sure we are not ahead of the curve since home inspectors seem to wait for the next guy to try it out the latest gadgets first before they do. Thanks for you replies.

I never talked to anyone with a iPhone using it for Home inspections but from my clients, they say it’s a great phone. The only problem they find with the phone is the battery life. With heavy use, they have to charge it twice a day.

I’d love to get one, but am waiting until they release it to Sprint. I’m sure your numbers will go way up Jeff once they get out from under the AT&T contract.

Yep, I’m waiting for the Verizon version.

I used one and it is a great phone. One of the many Apps I use is a pay by credit card App that makes the process easy.

What do you think about battery life?

I am curious if anyone has had both i phone and Blackberry?
What is different?

They make an external battery/case for the iphone now.

Yup,waiting on Verizon release too.

I use a palm currently, and would love to get an iPhone. I am waiting until my current plan with sprint expires and then plan on getting one. I will address carriers if options are available when I make the purchase.

The battery for my usage level is about 4 hour of continuous use.

The following is from Apple:
Power and battery

  • Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery
  • Charging via USB to computer system or power adapter
  • Talk time: Up to 5 hours on 3G. Up to 10 hours on 2G
  • Standby time: Up to 300 hours
  • Internet use: Up to 5 hours on 3G. Up to 6 hours on Wi-Fi
  • Video playback: Up to 7 hours
  • Audio playback: Up to 24 hours

Now I have always only gotten about 80% of what a manufacturer claims; but I am enjoying this phone.

Brian,
Do you ever see yourself using it to collect the data during an inspection ?

Jeff

I’ve had a Blackberry and now have an Iphone. There is NO comparison…the Iphone blows it out of the water in my opinion. I had so many problems with the Blackberry, I had to throw it away…

The Iphone is a computer in your hand. The web browsing is excellent, the email system is great, the apps are great, the GPS and mapping system is awesome - something you inspectors could really use… The battery life leaves a little to be desired, but I work at a computer all day, so it charges all day and I don’t have a problem with it dying. Also, if you use the ipod it comes with or browse on 3g a lot, it seems to drain the battery faster. They’re awesome phones and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. But I’m an Apple junkie anyway…

I will check it out Valerie though I have never had a problem with my Blackberry.
Which model did you have?

Before you dump Sprint and Palm, make sure you check out the Palm Pre. Supposed to be an ‘actual’ competitor to the IPhone.

Jeff

I heard rumors that Apple is going to come out with a new iPhone sometime this year, does anybody know if it is true or not?

Yes they are.

Sweet! Hey Dom do you know what the new features are going to be?

It’s still technically unconfirmed with no details. No?

They will be trying to kill the Palm Pre Buzz (and Palm while they’re at it), plus they need true 3G now that Sprint has moved onto 4G. You’re correct though, Apple has not confirmed it yet. But right now they’re releasing one a year so it would make sense.
